Yes, he used a telescope in 1610 and saw Saturn along with two "ears"(moons) around the planet, but a little while later he looked at it again and the moons were gone because of Saturn's angle.

yes he did help us understand Saturn! he used really old versions of microscopes to see all the way through space:)
